Pool Rules

To help us provide a safe and healthy experience for everyone at Boise’s municipal pools, we ask that you comply with the following policies:

  1. All people who enter a pool facility will be required to pay the daily admission fee during open swim hours.
  2. All visitors must shower before entering the water.
  3. Children under the age of nine (9) years of age must be supervised at all times by an adult (guardian must be at least 16 years of age).
  4. Children who are under the age of three (3) years of age must be in the arms of their adult while in the main pools and within arm’s reach of their adult while in the wading pools.
  5. Children who are not potty-trained must wear swim diapers.
  6. If your child has had a stomach illness, please wait two weeks before allowing your child to swim. Anyone with open sores or an infectious disease is not permitted in the pool.
  7. Masks, snorkels, and fins are only allowed during adult lap swim hours.
  8. Proper swim wear is required to use the facility. No denim shorts, jeans or cut-offs. Revealing swimwear is not allowed. Please be respectful.
  9. Diving is allowed in designated areas only. Any jumping should be made straight off the edge and into the pool. Front and back flips, back dives and twirls are not permitted when jumping in the pool from the pool edge.
  10. Lifeguards may require swimmers to demonstrate their swimming ability before entering deep water and lifejackets may not be worn while participating in the swim test.
  11. The wading pools are limited to children six (6) years of age and under, along with their adult. An adult must accompany children at all times.
  12. Rough play, abusive language and excessive noise are not allowed at pool facilities. No pushing, shoving or throwing people from the pool deck.
  13. Spitting, spouting water or blowing your nose in the water is not permitted.
  14. Running is not allowed in the facility.
  15. Food and drink may be consumed only in designated eating areas. Tobacco products, chewing gum and alcoholic beverages are not allowed. Please, no glass containers.
  16. Patrons 16 years of age and up have priority use of chaise lounge chairs.
  17. Boise Parks and Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  18. All pools have a maximum capacity of swimmers (each pool is different). Admission is based on a first come, first served basis with no exceptions. Season pass holders are not guaranteed admittance when the pool is at capacity.
  19. Any unsafe act, either observed by or reported to pool staff, will be subject to discipline as necessary.
  20. No over the nose swim googles permitted.

Flotation Devices

  • Young or inexperienced swimmers may use properly fitted coast guard approved life jackets while under direct supervision. Direct supervision is defined as an adult within arm’s length of the child or non-swimmer. No outside inflatables such as arm bands, baby floats, etc. are allowed. Examples of approved life jackets and floatation devices are pictured below.
  • Participants in life jackets may not be in water greater than five feet deep.
  • Lifejackets may not be worn on the Ivywild Pool tower slide, diving boards or while demonstrating skills for the swim test.
