Lifeguard Training (ages 15 and older)
This class provides entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies, and to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. In order to take this course, you must be proficient in your swimming skills. The pre-course skills test will consist of retrieving a ten pound brick from deep water, treading water for two minutes and a 300 yard swim using the following strokes: Front crawl and Breaststroke.
*Participants must be 15 by the last day of class, no exceptions.

*Part of the fee will be paid to Fort Boise for registration, and part of the fee will be paid directly to Red Cross during the online registration process.
Registration is REQUIRED Two (2) weeks before the class starts in order to complete enrollment in the online portion of the course and begin the online learning before the first class session.
Class sessions will be held at Fort Boise Community Center and BSU Kinesiology Pool.
These classes will be offered as a blended learning session. All participants will need home internet access to complete online learning before and in between class sessions.

Junior Lifeguard (ages 11-14)
This course will introduce participants to the skills needed for entry into the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course. They will learn communication and decision making skills, the basic responsibilities of a lifeguard and the basic knowledge and skills required to be a lifeguard. Formerly Guard Start.
