The 4,000-square-foot community center features multipurpose rooms for after-school drop-in use, studio space for art and dance classes for children and adults, and a supervised teen activity center with computers, games, and a lounging area.

The City of Boise allocated $600,000 for the center, which serves low-income children in the neighborhood. Whitney is a Title I school with more than 50 percent of children receiving free or reduced price lunches. To learn more about Boise Parks and Recreation programs offered at this community center and other locations, please see the digital edition of the Fall Activity Guide. You can register online, by phone at (208) 608-7680, or in person at Fort Boise Community Center, 700 Robbins Road.

At Whitney Community Center, the Kid City free drop-in program is available for children in grades 4-6. Staff members will provide instruction in fitness and art, homework assistance, and a snack. Kid City is open year round.

Kids at Whitney help plant and harvest fresh produce from a community garden maintained by Boise Parks and Recreation. To learn more see our video

Teens will enjoy an informal gathering space with cozy lounge chairs, computer stations with interactive video games, and a large-screen TV and Wii games. Staff members will provide mentoring and life skills development for teens.

Attention Teens! For information on teen programming, visit teen programming page.

The center, which is open year round -- including summer break -- is located in a wing of the school adjacent to the cafeteria and gymnasium. All alcoholic beverages including beer and wine are prohibited at this location.
