Garden City to Americana Greenbelt project updates

Idaho Transportation Department and the Boise City Parks and Recreation Department has started construction on the Garden City to Americana Greenbelt project.

Lane restrictions will be associated with the project at different times throughout the construction process.

  • 11/11/15-7/1/16—Fairview Avenue will be reduced to two lanes crossing the Boise River between Whitewater Park Boulevard and Garden Street.
  • 3/4/16-3/15/16—Main Street will be reduced to two lanes crossing the Boise River between Whitewater Park Boulevard and Garden Street.

Motorists can expect delays on Main Street and Fairview Avenue during these times, and should use an alternate route whenever possible.

A new phase of the Boise City Greenbelt is under construction between Garden City and Americana Blvd on the south side of the Boise River.  The project is being administered by the Idaho Transportation Department and the contractor is Concrete Placing Company.  The contractor has 272 days to complete the project.  Part of the project scope of work is to construct Greenbelt tunnels at Main Street and Fairview Avenue.  The work at Main Street and Fairview Avenue are being completed through an Ada County Highway Department (ACHD) permit.  The contractor is required to meet all of ACHD’s requirements for lane restrictions.

Main Street and Fairview Avenue tunnels are being expedited to be completed prior to Boise River high water events.  The two tunnels will be built in two phases.

Phase 1 includes constructing the West half of the tunnel at Main Street and the East half of the tunnel at Fairview Avenue.  This work is scheduled to be completed mid-January.  Then, the contractor will move to Phase 2.  Phase 2 will complete the East half of the tunnel at Main Street and the West half of the tunnel at Fairview Avenue.  All schedules are weather dependent and the contractor is working to complete the tunnels as soon as possible.

This project is the last gap of Greenbelt to be constructed in the Boise City Limits.  It will improve the public’s connectivity and commuter opportunities between Garden City and Boise.

The Greenbelt will be closed on the south side of the Boise River past Joe’s Crab Shack to Main Street.  There will be a signed pedestrian/bicycle detour around the closure.

Estimated date of completion for the project is September 2016.
