City of Boise gearing up to host ESPN X Games Park Qualifier

The City of Boise will take center stage Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10, 2017 when the world’s top skateboarders and BMX riders converge on Rhodes Skate Park to compete for an invitation to X Games Minneapolis.

The Park Qualifier is part of the Road to X Games series and will feature three disciplines: Men’s Skateboard Park, Women’s Skateboard Park and BMX Park. All 60 athletes receive an invitation to take part in the competition at Rhodes Skate Park. Top finishers in Friday’s elimination rounds will move on to the finals on Saturday.

A schedule of events is now available on the City of Boise’s newly launched website: Be sure to check back often for new information and event details.

ESPN will live stream Saturday’s competition from Rhodes Skate Park. In addition, fans can catch the coverage the following week on ABC as part of the World of X Games content airing on June 17.

The two-day event is open to the public. There will also be a select number of tickets available for purchase starting at 10:00 a.m. on May 5 to watch all the action from bleachers on the south side of the park. Tickets will be $20 and will be sold online on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fans will be able to grab a bite to eat from local food trucks on site and explore the vendor area before checking out live displays and demonstrations taking place in and around the skate park.

City leaders say the fact that Boise was chosen to host the X Games Park Qualifier less than a year after upgrades were made at Rhodes is a testament to the world-class park.

“This is a great opportunity for a worldwide audience to learn about the City of Boise and what makes living here so special,” said Doug Holloway, Boise Parks and Recreation Department Director. “We are proud of the improvements that have been made to Rhodes Skate Park and are excited to welcome ESPN and these world class athletes to Boise to compete.”

The festival area surrounding Rhodes Skate Park will open at 11:00 a.m. each morning during the two-day Park Qualifier. The first round of competition starts on Friday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. with the women’s skateboard elimination round. The men’s skateboard and BMX elimination rounds will follow.

Final rounds for all three disciplines will take place Saturday afternoon starting at 12:30 p.m. The top six athletes in the Men’s BMX and Skateboard disciplines at the Boise Park Qualifier will receive invites to X Games Minneapolis. The top four athletes in the Women’s Skateboard Park Qualifier will receive invites as well.
