Accomplishments

A new study measuring the benefits of open space conservation shows the Boise  Foothills generated $11.9 million in ecosystem services, direct use, health values and social cohesion in 2011.

Open Land Utility: A Study of Conservation, Ecosystem Services, and Recreation in Boise, Idaho was written by Niall Garrahan, a junior at The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. Garrahan received a grant from the James Monroe Scholar Program to visit Boise, conduct interviews, and gather data in summer 2012.


The Boise Foothills Levy passed with 59 percent support in May 2001. A property tax in 2002 and 2003 raised $10 million for land conservation efforts in the foothills. The Foothills Conservation Advisory Committee provides recommendations to City Council. Twelve members meet monthly to discuss acquisitions and conservation priorities.
